About CICEET

Founded in 1997, CICEET is a partnership of the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). CICEET’s mission is to provide national leadership for the development and application of environmental technology that monitors, manages, and prevents the contamination and degradation of coastal waters and habitats.

CICEET works to achieve this goal by administering extramural research programs that directly invest in the development and application of innovative coastal technologies (for examples, please see our Project Explorer); serving as a bridge between coastal management and the scientific community; and identifying strategic partnerships with private, public, and academic organizations.

CICEET is problem-driven and solution-oriented. As such, all of its activities are rooted in the need to identify and help resolve the challenges facing coastal management. (One of the ways CICEET assesses the needs of coastal managers is via targeted surveys.) Whether the pathway is through a commercial licensing agreement or a public-sector outreach program, CICEET is committed to delivering useful information and effective technology developed through its Environmental Technology Development (ETD) Program into the hands of coastal management.

While its administrative offices are located on the UNH campus in Durham, N.H., CICEET sponsors technology development in coastal states nationwide—primarily through its relationship with the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS). All projects funded through CICEET’s ETD Program are connected to at least one of 26 NERRS sites or their watersheds.
