CICEET Progress Report for the period 9/01/01 through 3/01/02
Project Title: Identification and Assessment of Anthropogenic Eutrophication in Shallow Estuaries (CICEET-UNH #99-304, NOAA NA87OR0512)
Principal Investigator(s): Ivan Valiela
Accomplishments
Tasks for the Period:
Dr. Cebrian is working to complete our sampling in the Apalachicola and Weeks NERRS. After we finish the sampling program for the Southern estuaries, we will continue our efforts at summarizing results, and making comparisons with the completed report by Brian Fry and colleagues. We have gone ahead and started the comparison without this data set completed (please see attached submitted manuscripts by Cole et al. and Stieve et al.)
Work plan to accomplish tasks
| Delineate watersheds, define land use, estimate loads in GB, WB, AB, Weeks | X |
| Plan information dissemination for planning | XX |
| Write manuscripts and reports | XX |
| Run workshops in different sites | XX |
Concerns or difficulties
It has been difficult to apply the Nitrogen Loading Model to Great Bay, NH NERR. We have in hand GIS data for model application but the scale of these systems, but the watershed delineations have not been made available. Instead, we have used the DIN in the water as the variable with which to compare signature instead of N load.
Anticipated Success in Meeting Project Objectives in Scheduled Project Period
We have finished all of the field sampling for Waquoit Bay and Great Bay and are currently waiting for Dr. Cebrian to complete the tasks in both Weeks Bay and Apalachicola Bay.
Preliminary Data
No new data have been collected. We have prepared two manuscripts that are submitted for publication as a direct result of this work (Cole et al. submitted and Stieve et al. submitted). We are in the process of writing a final report and at least one additional manuscript.
