A project team from Oregon State University is packaging lessons learned in urban Oregon into SWAMP—an open source stormwater assessment and management decision support process—for use by rural communities under development pressure.
About CICEET
The Cooperative Institute for Coastal and Estuarine Environmental Technology (CICEET) develops and applies tools for clean water and healthy coasts nationwide. CICEET is a partnership of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University of New Hampshire (UNH).
With ten years of experience in developing science and technology-based solutions to coastal management problems, CICEET is committed to doing more than research; we apply it for real change. Our collaborative approach engages a range of stakeholders from the public, private, and academic sectors to work collectively to define common goals, identify obstacles, and develop solutions.
This commitment to action is critical in a time when rapid coastal development and climate change threaten private property, public infrastructure, economic opportunity, human safety, and the environment. Through strategic partnerships and funding opportunities, CICEET is developing and demonstrating the tools that coastal managers need to address the impacts of these pressures.
While its administrative offices are located on the UNH campus in Durham, N.H., CICEET sponsors technology development in coastal states (including the Great Lakes) nationwide—primarily through its relationship with NOAA’s National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS). Many projects funded through CICEET are connected to one or more of the 27 NERRS sites or their watersheds. All of CICEET’s projects are available on our searchable online database, Project Explorer.
